Pediatrician warns: Do not cover the baby stroller with diaper or blanket in summer, it can be very dangerous. Most parents “throw” a diaper or blanket over the stroller in the summer to protect their little one from the strong sun rays.
The parents do this without knowing that this procedure can be dangerous for the child’s life.
Even the thinnest diaper prevents air circulation and raises the temperature in the stroller to dangerous limits for babies.
Because they are much more sensitive to heat than older children and adults.
Their body temperature can rise
Their body temperature can rise 3-5 times faster.
This means that they have an increased risk of heatstroke as well as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
According to the Swedish pediatrician Svante Norgren, covering the stroller does not reduce the temperature in it, but increases it and creates heat like in an oven.
“It gets extremely hot in the stroller, something like a thermos.

Poor air circulation
There is also poor air circulation and it is difficult to observe the baby with the cover on the stroller.
“It quickly becomes uncomfortable and potentially dangerous for the child,” Svante told the newspaper Svenska Dagbladet.
Inspired by Norgren, the paper conducted an experiment in Sweden to test how hot it can get in a stroller.
They left the cart in the sun between 11.30 and 13.00.
Without cover, the temperature in the cart was 22⁰C.
For the next 30 minutes, they covered the cart with a thin blanket and the temperature rose to 34⁰C.
And in one hour, the temperature rose to 37⁰C.
It should be noted that temperatures in Sweden are lower than in other countries where it is much warmer, so you can imagine how they feel.
Well, the next time you go out with your little one in the summer, maybe a better option is to put an umbrella with UV protection on the stroller.
The umbrella is a much better option, it will allow air to circulate.
If you still decide to cover the stroller, open the back, where the baby’s head is located.
Experts are unanimous that babies and children are best in summer:
- Do not go out in the period from 10 am to 5 pm; To be in the shade if the outside temperatures are very high;
- Drink more fluids, especially water;
- To wear light clothes in bright colors, and it is best to be made of cotton;
- Wear a hat and sunglasses;
- NEVER be left alone in a car;
Check regularly for fever.
